AMKA Restaurants operates 11 McDonald's restaurants in Rogaland and Agder. The company has a strong focus on sustainability and works with Noova to reduce energy consumption.
AMKA wanted full control over energy consumption. The aim was to cut emissions, find concrete measures and build a long-term sustainability strategy.
AMKA gained real-time insights and cut consumption, emissions and costs. With heat pumps, sensors and smart steering, they increased both efficiency and comfort
When AMKA started cooperation with Noova in 2019, electricity was still cheap. But CEO Ronny Sigbjørnsen was clear:
“We are a big player and we are setting a footprint. It is important that we work consciously on good solutions.
Part of the solution was the “Big Mac index” -- a way to link energy consumption directly to operations. By comparing sales figures with consumption, they could see the energy cost of each Big Mac produced.
“Now we know how much energy a Big Mac requires,” Sigbjørnsen says.
But they know not only what the dishes require of energy. They can monitor consumption in real time and correct deviations right away.
Using sensors from Noova, they discovered that the new ventilation system was blowing in air that held 14 degrees.
“One thing is to cut consumption and emissions, but who bothers to eat a Big Mac in such temperatures? asks Kjartan Kopren, regional manager in Noova.
He says that access to accurate data is essential for sustainable operations and a good customer and employee experience.
“Sustainability is not only about saving energy, but also about seeing potential in every corner of the business. With us as an energy partner, AMKA has achieved significant savings and increased comfort for customers and employees.
